The importance of a Spring and Summer skincare plan for post-menopausal skin

Spring is upon us, the weather is starting to warm up, the flowers are blooming, and summer is just around the corner. However, before we start breaking out our summer wardrobes, there is something else we need to consider. It’s time to start thinking about our skincare plan for the upcoming spring and summer. As we age, our skin changes. The natural production of oil and collagen diminishes, leading to various skin problems. If you are post-menopausal, it is essential to have a skincare plan that takes these changes into account. As a doctor and someone who is post-menopausal, I wanted to use this blog post to discuss the importance of a Spring and Summer skincare plan for post-menopausal women, including some of my tried and tested tips.

Preventative Measures:

It is crucial to protect your skin to keep it looking its best. Sun damage from years gone by can lead to the appearance of fine lines and pigmentation. SPF will minimise further damage and prevent further pigmentation from appearing. As you can imagine, for this reason, SPF is far from optional- it is an everyday essential! As the weather is getting warmer, I strongly advise that you look for sunscreens with an SPF of 30 or higher and be sure to reapply throughout the day. In addition, it would be best to consider wearing protective clothing, such as a wide-brimmed sunhat, when you are outside for extended periods.

Foundation Building: BioRePeel & Profhilo:

It is also essential to keep your skin hydrated. To help with this, I favour Skin booster treatments. There is a vast range of products available, and the one I have incorporated into my personal treatment plan is Profhilo. I will be taking two courses of Profhilo and combining both with a BioRepeel treatment as I love the smoothing effect it has on my skin.

The Benefits of BioRePeel for Post Menopausal Skin:

This treatment is an uncomplicated, effective peel containing TCA (trichloroacetic acid). It is an innovative, biphasic, patented medical device with a bio-stimulating, revitalising and peeling action.BioRePeel is an essential treatment for post-menopausal skin. It counters the effects of skin ageing and reduces signs of damage caused by long term exposure to environmental factors such as UV radiation and pollution. It works the target the following key areas:

The Benefits of Profhilo for Post Menopausal Skin:

Profhilo is an injectable skin bio-remodelling treatment that significantly improves tissue quality through stimulating collagen and elastin production.

The treatment contains one of the highest concentrations of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) on the market, specially formulated for people suffering from a lack of volume and elasticity within their skin. This treatment is perfect for post-menopausal skin as it works to improve skin tone, texture, hydration and provides a radiant glow! It can also increase firmness, softness and elasticity in the dermis. Profhilo is also highly effective for the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hand areas, meaning a large portion of your body can be treated for signs of ageing.

Building upon your Foundations: SkinPen and Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

Everyone has their personal preferences, and many of my clients envision different outcomes when they come in for a consultation. We always ensure to tailor your skincare plan to the results you hope to see. Since I wish to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, I will be supplementing my hydrating treatments with SkinPen and Anti-Wrinkle Injections plans.

The Benefits of SkinPen for Post Menopausal Skin:

SkinPen is a microneedling device that corrects multiple skin issues, including fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment works by creating a series of microscopic channels into the dermis to stimulate the skin’s natural production of new collagen and elastin, helping you to look younger and feel healthier.

I feel that the SkinPen is a perfect treatment for post-menopausal skin as it minimises the signs of ageing and improves the appearance of acne scars, ultimately rejuvenating ageing skin!

The Benefits of Anti-Wrinkle Treatments for Post Menopausal Skin:

As we age the skin is creased in areas of repeated natural expression. The ageing process causes a loss in the skin’s ability to repair itself so that in the areas of overuse the line becomes more visible. Anti-wrinkle treatments are used to relax the movement of the muscle, resulting in reduced creasing which allows the skin to recover and the lines to gradually soften.
