Dermal Fillers

Non-surgical injections offer added volume to create a fuller or smoother appearance of your skin.

Dermal Fillers are an Elective Treatment Intended to Plump Wrinkles and Enhance Facial Features

As you age, your body loses natural collagen – an essential protein that plays a role in the structure and function of your skin. Less collagen causes the skin to loosen and lose its natural volume in areas such as the lips and cheeks.

What are Dermal Fillers Made Of?

Dermal filler injections use synthetic (manufactured) materials and naturally occurring substances to restore volume to your face in a controlled way. These fillers can also target wrinkles and smooth the appearance of lines. At SKIN2, we use hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers.

The Role of Hyaluronic Acid in Skin Care

HA is a powerful moisturising agent that appears naturally in the skin’s dermis. It maintains firmness and skin tone, gives your skin natural volume, and keeps it hydrated. With age, we stop making hyaluronic acid, and as a result, the skin dries out, loses elasticity, becomes fragile, and wrinkles start to appear. Skin tissues progressively sag, and the face becomes hollow as the natural volume disappears. Reintroducing HA to your body by injecting dermal fillers into the dermis may alleviate the hyaluronic acid deficiency.

Dermal Filler Treatment Areas

Dermal fillers are a versatile non-surgical cosmetic procedure. Our practitioners use these injections to help our patients feel better about several concerns regarding signs of ageing and skin imperfections. We can use HA fillers to help:

Your Dermal Filler Treatment Appointment at our Wokingham, Berkshire Practice

Before we recommend dermal filler treatment, we will consult with you to learn about your goals and desired enhancements and examine your skin. We will need to discuss your medical history, ensuring we only recommend dermal fillers in appropriate circumstances. This consultation is crucial, so we can see how your face moves, and observe your natural facial expression, to determine how we can best help you. After learning your options, if you proceed with a dermal filler treatment, we make the appointment as relaxing as possible. To make the procedure more comfortable, we apply a topical anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort as we carefully inject microneedles of dermal filler under your skin. Our practitioners are very precise and experienced with this treatment. Depending on how many areas we treat, your appointment can be as little as a few minutes.

Downtime After Dermal Filler Treatment

Many of our patients can return to their daily routine immediately after their treatment appointment. We may recommend taking a break from rigorous physical activity and drinking alcohol for a few days, but for the most part, our aftercare instructions are pretty minimal.

How Long Do Dermal Filler Results Last?

Unlike some other types of facial aesthetics treatments, you will likely see some results immediately after your appointment. However, everyone is different. The dermal filler solution may take a few weeks to integrate with your skin tissues fully.

We cannot guarantee how long your results will last, as each individual responds differently to dermal filler treatment. Often, patients maintain results for six months or up to a year (sometimes more). Factors such as the area treated, patient metabolism and genetics, sun exposure, HA concentration, and more can influence the time results last.

Dermal Filler Results are Temporary

Dermal fillers are not a permanent solution for skin and volume issues. Certain areas of your face move more frequently than others, such as the lips, which may necessitate more touch-up appointments. Our skilled practitioners can suggest when to book a follow-up appointment to maintain your results.
